SOESTERBERG HOLLAND - This neat, well
laid-out Royal Netherlands Air Force station
officially became the new home of a former
UK - based Sabre jet squadron. Wednesday as
the re-designated 512 Ftr. Day Sq. of the 406th
Ftr. Inter Wing Manston, was committed to its
role as the first NATO unit to base in Holland.
Completion of the USAF squadron's historic
move to Soesterberg was marked by a formal
welcoming ceremony at the NATO airfield site
which the Americans will know as "New Amsterdam."
The Secretary of State and the Minister of War
for the Netherlands Government, the chief of
staff of the Royal Netherlands Air Force and
the mayor of Amsterdam headed the
list of officials who extended the official welcome
to the U.S. Air Force F-86 Sabre squadron.
